Beer rules — Toronto is more of a beer town than a cocktail town. The province is home to dozens of craft breweries, and you can sample any number of them at the city’s plentiful pubs and bars. Just ask for what’s local, on tap.

Festivals galore — Toronto is big on annual art and culture festivals, especially between May and September, when the weather is at its best. Personal favorites include: Doors Open Toronto (May); Luminato (June); NXNE (June); Fringe Festival (July); Toronto International Film Festival (September); Nuit Blanche (October).

If you want to see a movie — The TIFF Bell Lightbox cinema downtown is fab and where they hold the Toronto Film Festival.
